Safe Chlorine Instructions

The Key to Pool Safety

1. Fill the Spa

  • If possible, fill the spa through the filter system to help prevent an air lock.​
  • Bypass the water softener unless the water has a high iron content.​
  • As the spa is filling, add 1 bottle of Metal Gon.

2. Power On and Temperature Adjustment

Once the spa is full, turn on the power and set the desired temperature.

3. Total Alkalinity Adjustment

When the spa reaches 80°F or higher:​

  • Test and adjust total alkalinity.
  • If low, add Alka-Rise.
  • If high, add pH Minus.
  • Add 2 ounces at a time every 15–20 minutes until total alkalinity is between 80 and 120 ppm.

Note: Your pH level may be off after adjusting alkalinity. Leave it for 48 hours, then adjust if necessary.

4. pH Level Adjustment (After 48 Hours)

  • If pH is low, add pH Plus.​
  • If pH is high, add pH Minus.​
  • Aim for a pH level between 7.2 and 7.8.

5. Sanitization

Once alkalinity is set, add Chlor-Aid (chlorine) at a rate of 2–4 tablespoons every 20 minutes until the test strip shows a chlorine level between 1 and 3 ppm. Always maintain a chlorine level of 1 ppm or above.

6. Weekly Maintenance Schedule

For nice clean & clear water, follow the weekly schedule.

  • Monday: Add ½ oz per 250 gallons of Spa Clear.
  • Wednesday: Add 2 oz per 250 gallons of Prevent II.
  • Friday: Add 2–4 oz per 250 gallons of Shock. Keep the cover open, set jets on high, and run for 15–30 minutes.*

7. Daily Maintenance

Always maintain a chlorine level by adding approximately 1 tablespoon per person after each use.

8. Foam Control

If spa gets foamy, add a small amount of Defoamer. Foam often indicates the presence of laundry detergent in the water. To prevent this, rinse bathing suits in water after use and hang them to dry instead of washing with detergent.

9. Filter Cleaning

  • Remove the filter cartridge at least once a month and spray it thoroughly with a high-pressure hose.​
  • Every 3 months, when changing the spa water, soak the filter in Cartridge Cleaner.​
  • Replace the filter cartridge annually or sooner if needed.
